Grocery book dinner with Michael Ruhlman -- Tuesday, May 9, 6 p.m.
We are beyond thrilled to welcome esteemed food writer and bestselling author Michael Ruhlman
to Persimmon next month for a very special book dinner celebrating the release of his latest work: Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America
Where to begin?! A storied career is an understatement. Michael Ruhlman is the author of more than twenty books
, including The Making of a Chef,The Soul of a Chef, and The Elements of Cooking. He has co-authored numerous cookbooks, partnering with Thomas Keller to produce The French Laundry Cookbook, Under Pressure: Cooking Sous Vide, and Ad Hoc at Home. He's appeared on TV too many times to count (Iron Chef America! Anthony Bourdain!), and has won James Beard and IACP awards for his writing.
On Tuesday, May 9, Champe will be cooking a four-course dinner inspired by Ruhlman's work
. The meal will be paired with wines by our sommelier Steffen Rasch
, and each guest will receive a signed copy of Grocery
-- as well as the opportunity to hear and talk to one of the most prolific and engaging food writers of our time. We hope you can join us; this promises to be a very special evening.
Tuesday, May 9. 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $125/person, which includes food, wine, and a signed book (tax and gratuity are additional). Please call 401.432.7422 to reserve
Please visit our sister venture, Persimmon Provisions butchery and artisan foods, in nearby Barrington, Rhode Island.
Our model is the quintessential neighborhood butcher shop updated with a modern aesthetic and culinary sensibility -- high quality meats, hard-to-find cuts, and plenty of friendly tips on how to prepare what you've bought.
Provisions was borne out of Champe's passion for the art and craft of butchery (he was, in fact, a butcher for ten years before culinary school beckoned) and the desire to bring responsibly raised, carefully sourced animals to the local marketplace. The shop features fresh meats, charcuterie, house-made sausages, sauces, stocks, cheese, olive oils and vinegars, dry goods, and a handful of prepared foods (from the Persimmon kitchen). Special orders, of course, are welcome, too. Want your bird brined? Or your roast trussed? In search of a no-fail way to prep foie gras? We've got you covered.
Persimmon Provisions is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shop is located at 338 County Road (Prince's Hill Place), Barrington, RI, 401.337.5885, www.persimmonprovisions.com.
